Busta XI Hammer India
Fri, Apr 26, '02
Looking to force a recall to the senior West Indies team,
Jamaican left-hander Wavell Hinds struck an unbeaten 140, teaming
up with opener Devon Smith (91) to lead the Busta Cup XI to 250-2
against India in St Lucia.
Hinds, who has appeared in 20 Tests (1,052 runs, avg 29.50), was
the dominant partner in a 215-run second wicket stand with the
Smith, the young Windward Islands batsman who is himself battling
to crack into the senior team.
Hinds hammered 19 hours and three sixes in his unbeaten knock
while the left-handed Smith stroked 13 boundaries before he
succumbed in the final over, bowled by Sarandeep Singh.
Earlier in the rain-hit day, leg-spinner Anil Kumble bowled opener
Darren Ganga (5) with the score on 35. India is playing without
many of their regulars, including pacers Javagal Srinath, Ashish
Nehra and Zaheer Khan and top batsmen Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav
Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.
